Curriculum

The 30-credit curriculum provides an excellent professional foundation, combining explorations of theory with practical application. Engaging online instruction is paired with hands-on classroom experience that prepares you to apply for licensure while equipping you with the skills and tools needed to become an effective teacher.

You will complete six core courses, two specialization-specific courses, and three clinical experience rotations in a classroom — to meet a minimum of 600 California-mandated hours.

  • Core courses:

Build a strong foundation in essential topics and skills, including instructional design, and literacy theory and methods. You’ll also explore educational topics such as equity and social justice, address contemporary issues in education, and learn effective strategies for teaching multilingual learners, and creating inclusive classroom environments.

  • Specialization-specific courses:

Tailor your education to align with your chosen career path. These courses provide you with the teaching methods necessary for success in kindergarten and elementary school classrooms, or in middle school and high school settings.

  • Hands-on teaching experience:

This three-part classroom sequence offers a full-time opportunity to engage in your assigned classroom and deliver whole-class instruction under the supervision of certified practitioners. These experiences will occur at different school sites and across various grade levels, ensuring a diverse and comprehensive learning experience.
