Curriculum

This online MSc Psychology course will provide you with a foundation in statistics, applied research methods and all the central areas of contemporary psychology: developmental, personality, social, cognitive, biological and environmental. The curriculum is pending accreditation with the British Psychological Society (BPS). Throughout the course you will build the theoretical and qualitative/quantitative methodological expertise to conduct psychological research within or outside of the formal field of psychology.

Throughout the course, you will learn how to:

  • Analyze human behavior: Apply psychological theories and research to critically analyze behavior and preferences in a variety of psychological sub-disciplines.
  • Develop your skill set: Learn how to use basic and advanced research design, and quantitative and qualitative analysis methods.
  • Consider societal impacts: Explain how psychology contributes to societal issues, such as sustainability

Admissions

To meet the entry requirements for the MSc Psychology, applicants must have a minimum of an Upper Second Class Honors (2:1) UK undergraduate degree, or a recognized equivalent international qualification. For UK students, GCSE math and English (language/literature) C are also required.

To be considered for admission into the online MSc Psychology at the University of Surrey, you will need to submit the following materials:

  • Online application (no fee).

  • Scanned copies of signed/stamped qualifications (certificates or transcripts) to show how you meet, or expect to meet, the entry requirements.

  • Contact details for two people who have knowledge of your academic or professional ability. These will usually be academic references from a lecturer/teacher/faculty member at your current or last institution. If your academic studies were completed some time ago, it may be more appropriate to select referees from your professional area of work. (At this stage, it is not necessary to provide written references. Should they be required, we will contact your referees directly. By providing these contact details, you are consenting that you have the permission of your referee for sharing this data with us for the purposes of obtaining a reference.)

  • Personal statement of 500 to 1,000 words, which should include any further information you feel is relevant to your application, including your current interests in the subject area and your reasons for wanting to undertake this course.

  • Optional: Résumé/CV. If you choose to upload this document, please provide information about any relevant experience (paid/voluntary) that may support your application, and list your most recent position first. 

  • Evidence of your English language level (if English is not your first language).
