University of Denver Master’s in School Counseling online

Tuition and fees

Tuition and fees are subject to change and may increase each academic year. Tuition does not include student fees, technology platform licensing, or support services. Learners are also responsible for travel and accommodation costs related to any in-person immersions or residentials.

Featured courses

The curriculum prepares learners to address issues of identity, power, and oppression, so they can effectively serve diverse students in all aspects of their lives. You will learn from school counseling and mental health professionals while building a personal counselor identity through journaling, mock counseling sessions, field training, and an overall focus on self-reflection. Featured courses include:

  • Counseling Theory: Master basic counseling theories and philosophical principles — including history, concepts, techniques, and trends — and use them as foundation for your professional training.
  • Lifespan Development: Examine the principles of human development from conception to adulthood, with an emphasis on biological, environmental, and cultural factors that affect one’s development.
  • Educational Strategies and Policies for School Counselors: Study the history and current issues in legislation and government policy relevant to school counseling.
  • Mental Health and Substance Use: Learn how to identify and treat psychological disorders and substance abuse in children who are at risk of developing or living in an environment impacted by these disorders.

Admissions

The Morgridge College of Education seeks curious and driven individuals who want to make an impact in their communities through effective and empathetic school counseling services. All applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution to be considered for admission.

To complete an application, you will need to submit:

Fieldwork and immersions

SchoolCounseling@Denver learners have the opportunity to gain real-world counseling experience in a school setting, through fieldwork experiences. 

Fieldwork: Learners complete a 100-hour practicum experience and two 300-hour internships in or near their communities. During these experiences, learners work closely with licensed school counselors to build new skills and hone their own practice. 

Immersion (optional): Learners can visit the Denver campus to connect with classmates and faculty mentors while practicing self-reflection.
