Program tracks

In this program, your courses will explore human behavior, the fundamental principles of the psychology field, and various psychotherapy techniques. As a student, you’ll complete five foundation courses, nine core courses, and two electives. Courses include:

  • Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) Track: This path is for learners that want to help with a broader scope of mental health issues, and provide service to a larger audience, which includes individuals, families, and organizations. This track prepares learners to pursue LPC licensure and requires 280 field hours of working with clients.
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) Track: This path is for learners who want to help with issues that stem from marriage and family dynamics and parent-child conflicts, and who want to provide service to couples and families. This track prepares learners to pursue LMFT licensure and requires 225 field hours working with clients.

Clinical training

EdX_PEP-MFT_About-Page_Flex_339x230.jpg

Clinical training is an integral part of the program. Both LPC and LMFT track learners are required to take four terms of clinical practicum — for a total of 700 practicum hours — under the supervision of a licensed counselor or therapist. Hands-on training prepares learners to apply their knowledge to real-world situations with real clients and to bring about real solutions.

The program facilitates access to clinical training opportunities thanks to placement specialists and partnerships with agencies across the country. All agencies meet Pepperdine University’s high standards for practice and share in their core mission of serving others with purpose, service, and leadership.
