Today, Newhouse is dedicated to driving the evolution of media and teaching bright, talented minds both on campus and online. Its online graduate programs prepare communications professionals from diverse backgrounds to shape the future of the industry.

To help you leverage emerging media tools and make your mark on the industry based on your unique career goals, the Newhouse School of Public Communications offers its learners two online graduate degrees in communications to choose from: an MS in Communications and an MS in Communications Management. Faculty members are renowned experts in the field, who teach learners in both the in-person and online programs. Both programs focus on the evolving industry, ensuring that learners are up-to-date on the latest trends and technologies. Learn to use drone videography, dive into data-driven journalism, and engage your audience with your innovative web and mobile story production skills. The MS in Communication is a part-time program, covers 33 credit hours, and can be completed in as little as 15 months. It also offers three program specializations to choose from: journalism innovation, media management, and strategic communications.
Study a holistic curriculum that blends leadership, business management, and communications courses, and go from experienced professional to industry leader. The MS in Communications Management is a part-time program, covers 36 credit hours, and can be completed in as little as 18 months.
Learners need to have earned a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and at least three years of work experience prior to applying to the MS in Communications program and the MS in Communications Management. To complete an application, you will need to submit:

Online MS learners participate in two in-person immersions in Syracuse, New York. They also complete an independent capstone project that focuses on innovation in digital communications.
During the two weekend-long immersions on the Syracuse University campus — as well as in select international and domestic cities — learners get to meet, in-person, their peers and faculty; and have the opportunity to meet with industry experts and leaders. Previous industry guests included professionals who work at Bloomberg LP, Citefull.com, CNN, and ESPN, among others.
