The World Health Organization (WHO) projected urgent need of physicians and surgeons in the next decade and the Lancet Commissions 2015 report indicated the need for surgical services will continue to rise substantially from now until 2030, in particular in the low-income and middle-income regions.

Learners will learn about the general surgical conditions, clinical testing, treatment planning and management and surgical operations through flexible modular learning in 15 speciality sections in the course. Furthermore, learners will be introduced to advances and techniques being practiced in different surgical specialties today, as well as, evidence-based research of surgical conditions and treatment. Learners will also have the opportunity to learn about the career path of a surgeon and get a close up view of the roles and responsibilities and gain some career advice from surgeons at different stages of their career.
