Moritz B., Austria:
The Lean Six Sigma Yellow & Green Belt courses offered by the Technical University of Munich (TUM) are the perfect opportunity to reach high-quality training from a reputable organization - especially in this exceptional time of physical distancing.
The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt course builds on theoretical topics with a practical project. The project is about the littering situation in your hometown – it’s a nice idea to have a positive impact on our planet while doing this certification project. You learn how to apply the learned Six Sigma methods as well as some key elements of project management. If you need help you get really good support in the internal course forum from your peers as well as from the professors. Furthermore, there is a weekly online session in the Green Belt course where you can ask your personal questions as well as learn about best practice examples.
I enjoyed the challenging project and learned a lot about Six Sigma and its implementation. Special thanks to Dr. Reiner Hutwelker for all the effort and passion he puts into the TUM Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program. ** I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS COURSE! ** __
Tim L. V., Vietnam:
I highly recommend this course! - I was familiar with Six Sigma beforehand and have also done some projects where we followed the Six Sigma methods to some extent. … The quality of the course and Dr. Hutwelker's supervised project is far above the level of typical certificates. … Throughout the course, I had the opportunity to share all of my concerns and challenges with Dr. Hutwelker and it worked out great. So don't worry if you are unfamiliar with the concept or worried about how to apply the Six Sigma methodologies to your project … It is an excellent course and I recommend it to everyone, in any position and level.
Testimonials from our Business-Certification Projects:
Ana F., Norway :
Since I started my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program through TUM, I went through a process of learning by doing with heavy support of tools and coaching sessions made available by TUM. The program is set up in a logical, methodical, and very well-structured way, but at the same time, it is challenging for me to step up by taking responsibility and leadership over my project. My work is now more visible to management and I am sure to be able to provide them with solutions rather than just problems. Continuous learning allows growth and for those interested in developing their knowledge in Six Sigma, this program is simply perfect.
Brad B., USA :
The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification program through the Technical University of Munich is exciting and challenging at the same time. This program involves a real-life 6 months to a year project that impacts our career and helps us show our leadership that we can enhance our education and apply what we've learned in a project at work. With a focus on Lean Management, our team can work smarter and not harder.
Christopher L., USA : “ The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt program at TUM requires students to actually apply the information learned from the Yellow Belt program to a real work project. Choosing TUM over ASQ certification was a simple decision once I learned that you get to implement your own project at TUM. Running into real-life problems and scenarios during each phase of the project and having Dr. Reiner Hutwelker available one-on-one to coach you through the tough times has been an extremely valuable experience. The professional experience you will gain coupled with the flexibility of the program on an online platform makes this certification course ideal for all types of students all across the world.”
Helga S., Oman : “I've been on the Lean Six Sigma program since June 2017, first completing the Yellow Belt courses and now working on the Greenbelt. The academic units were challenging and well-structured. The practical part so far has offered great support and one on one interaction with Dr. Hutwelker. The coursework slots in perfectly with the implementation of the project in my company so my company is benefitting greatly by having the input of a Master Black belt. I highly recommend this course and particularly Professors Ott and Hutwelker.”
Imen L., Dubai:
The green belt project was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the six sigma methodology and I could practice the skills learned in the yellow belt course. The achieved results are amazing and my sponsor was impressed. Dr. Hutwelker explained very well different phases and simplified them by transforming complex to simple, he also provided meaningful, specific, and constructive feedback and he was very responsive each time I contacted him. Also, the videos were excellent and the sigmaGuide material was very useful as it helps to organize the work then achieve better results. I would like to recommend this course to anyone who interested in Lean and Six Sigma program.
Karim H., China : “I work for a manufacturing SME in the fast-paced and competitive country that is China. As such, access to knowledge and industry best-practice is necessary yet challenging to get. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification from TUM allows me to apply the knowledge gathered through the Yellow Belt program on a real case and with the continuous support of Dr. Reiner (Master Black Belt). In a nutshell, I am improving my company’s products and services while extending my knowledge and my colleagues. Given the size and resources of my company, this is not something I would have had access to otherwise.”

**When can I start?
** You may start at any time after you receive our TUM/edX Yellow Belt certificate.
**Are Yellow Belt (YB) certificates from other providers accepted?
** No. Our TUM YB Body of Knowledge includes theoretical knowledge up to a GB level - mandatory for our GB certification.
**In what time frame can/must the project be completed?
** Speed is not a success criterion for us. Typically, GB certification projects should be completed within half a year - the benchmark is 2 months. The time needed for data collection can be a bottleneck. Experience shows that the effort for the project takes 5-10% of the working time. The flexibility of our course allows you to complete your GB project self-paced, according to your priorities - but it should not take longer than a year.
**How can I get impressions about the course in advance?
** Our online lectures are held on Tuesdays, at 8:00UTC and 15:00 UTC, here: https://tum-conf.zoom.us/j/96975983511 (Passcode: 122362). Check-in and ask your questions.
**Will I be certified if I cannot complete my project successfully?
** No. We want to ensure that all DMAIC phases have been completed, all relevant tools have been applied and the benefits of the project have been demonstrated. For this reason, you need the support of a responsible sponsor from your organization who can decide on the implementation of the measures.
Who qualifies as a sponsor?
Any manager who is responsible for the process and its outputs, which are to be improved by the project. This can be the direct manager, sometimes also cross-functional managers. A sponsor should have the time to steer the content of the project through the DMAIC phases and the competence to decide on the implementation of measures.
**Does TUM offer a pool of project topics from companies from which I could choose?
** No. Projects of this type are confidential, as they require access to data. Our Sustainability Project for students might be a suitable alternative for you, as you will only collect publicly available data.
Do I need to measure the data first, or can I use existing company data?
You can use stored data. This applies to the data before and after your improvement, in MEASURE and CONTROL.
**May I submit an already completed project for certification?
** No. You must implement a new project because this is the only way we can ensure that you mastered the methods and tools.
**Is the extent of the project benefits a criterion for certification?
** No. Our goal is that you understand the method of Lean Six Sigma and can successfully apply the tools. In our individual Business-Projects, we want to ensure - by our personal guidance - that the benefits of the project at least exceed the course fee. However, the benefit depends on the project topic, its potential, and the support of the sponsor. In our Sustainability Project, the benefit of the project is also not a certification criterion - although we are happy if your project contributes to sustainability.
Do the certificates for the Business- and the Sustainability Project differ?
No. The Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification is identical for both courses. In both courses, you also have the option to upvalue your certificate with the included optional Process Mining module.
