About me

Susan is a Deaf lecturer and course coordinator in the Department of General Linguistics at Stellenbosch University and teaches South African Sign Language (SASL) acquisition as an additional language to second language users (hearing students). She is also a Deaf poet and academic who recently obtained her Masters in Linguistics. Her first poem was "June 16th", followed by "Bear Wash Day", which inspired many Deaf poets to explore new ideas as well as Deaf children learning about poetry and storytelling in their own language, SASL. She's also embarking on her PhD studies in 2024.
