About me

I am the James B. Duke Assistant Professor of Practice in Data Science at Davidson College, where I have been a faculty member since 2024. Prior to that, I worked for over a decade as a developer, team leader, and consultant specializing in data engineering and business intelligence (BI).

My teaching focuses on the practical and ethical application of data science methods to tell stories, solve problems, and build a more just and rational society. Whether I’m in the classroom at Davidson or teaching my data skills courses on edX, I try to make my courses as approachable and relevant as possible. This helps my students relate to what they are learning and discover their innate capability for success with these technologies.

In addition to my teaching, I have led professional workshops and presented at national conferences on a variety of technical topics, and my edX courses on SQL databases and Microsoft Power BI have reached almost 200,000 learners worldwide since 2020. I also hold several certifications in the Microsoft data platform, including Power BI, Fabric, and Azure databases, and I have been a Microsoft Certified Trainer (MCT) since 2021.
