Dr. Berek, MD, MMSc, is the Laurie Kraus Lacob Professor at the Stanford University School of Medicine, and an oncology physician/ surgeon, cancer researcher, author, editor, and director. He is a Past Fellow in the Stanford Distinguished Careers Institute. In 2019, Dr. Berek launched the Stanford Center for Health Communication, a center conducting research at the intersection of medicine and the media, training healthcare providers in the art and science of effective communication with patients, peers, and the public. He is the Director of MedArts Films, and Faculty Director, Health Communication, the Stanford Center for Health Education. Professor Berek is the Director of the Stanford Women's Cancer Center and Senior Advisor, the Stanford Cancer Institute. He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from the American Cancer Society and the International Gynecologic Cancer Society, and the prestigious Sherman Mellinkoff Award from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
