Ethan Weisman

International Economist at International Monetary Fund

About me

Ethan Weisman is an international economist. He received a Masters in Economics at the University of Texas at Austin and his doctorate at the Graduate Institute of International Studies and Development in Geneva, Switzerland. He taught graduate courses in International Economics at the National Centre for Development Studies, the Australian National University, Canberra. For over a quarter of a century he worked at the International Monetary Fund as a macroeconomist primarily on economies in Africa, Asia and Latin America. He also worked in the IMF Statistics Department, where he was Deputy Chief of the Government Finance Division and later served as a Division Chief in the Resource Management unit and developed the IMF Results-Based Management framework. He also provided technical assistance and training on national accounts, prices, government finance and balance of payments statistics. In addition, Mr. Weisman worked for the World Bank in Brazil as the Lead Economist and Poverty Reduction and Economic Manager. Since 2017, Mr. Weisman has worked as an independent economic consultant, including as a principal developer of the IMF’s online course on government finance statistics. He works in English, Spanish, Portuguese and French.
