Martha and Henry Malcolm Lovett Chair of Psychology and Professor of Psychological Sciences and Management, Rice University at Rice University
As a full professor of psychology and management at Rice University, Dr. Hebl’s interest lies in the ways in which social psychological phenomena can be applied to industries and organizations. Her research focuses on workplace discrimination and the barriers that stigmatized individuals—such as women and ethnic minorities—face in social interactions, the hiring process, business setting and the medical community. Dr. Hebl has approximately 200 publications, 21 teaching awards (including the most prestigious national award called the Cherry Award), research grants from NSF and NIH and several gender-related research awards. She presents her and others’ related research findings in an effort to educate and ameliorate disparate social inequities. A proud native of Pardeeville, Wisconsin, Dr. Hebl graduated with her B.A. from Smith College and earned her Ph.D. at Dartmouth College. She joined the faculty at Rice University in 1998 and was endowed with the title of Radoslav Tsanoff Assistant Professorship in 2000.
