About me

James is a behavioural ecologist with a keen interest in animal conservation. He completed my PhD at the University of Cambridge on the social and reproductive behaviour of birds in the Australian outback, and has worked in the UK, Netherlands, Ireland, the USA, Canada, and elsewhere on various species. His work primarily focuses on parental care, maternal investment, and communication.

James’ current role is Research Coordinator at the Southern Institute of Technology, part of Te Pūkenga in New Zealand. This position involves supporting staff in all aspects of research across diverse fields, but also provides scope to continue his own work into Animal Behaviour and Conservation. He currently works with the Department of Conservation’s Kākāpō Recovery Team, helping to identify causes of low hatching success in this critically endangered parrot.
