About me

Dr. Sanfilippo is chief scientist at Hamad Bin Khalifa's Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute (QEERI), where he leads an R&D program on energy systems. His research focus is on techno-economic modeling, solar forecasting, and smart grid data analytics. From 2003 to 2014 he was chief scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), US Department of Energy (DOE), where he led projects for the DOE, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Institutes of Health, and the National Science Foundation, and directed a Laboratory Initiative on predictive analytics for security, energy and environment applications. Prior to joining PNNL, he held positions as research director in the private sector, senior consultant at the European Commission, research supervisor and group manager at SHARP Laboratories of Europe, and research associate at the universities of Edinburgh and Cambridge. Dr. Sanfilippo has a PhD from the University of Edinburgh's School of Informatics. He is the recipient of the 2008 Laboratory Director’s Award for Exceptional Scientific Achievement at PNNL.
