Associate Professor at College of Arts and Sciences at Qatar University
Associate Professor at Arabic for Non-Native Speakers Center at College of Arts and Sciences – Qatar University. While at QU, he joined Georgetown University in Qatar as an adjunct Professor.
Dr Ibrahim is a member of a number of international societies and boards, including: American Associate for Teachers of Arabic, British Associate for Teachers of Arabic, Arabic Language International Council, A Referee Arabic Language Prize in Russia, in addition to various academic and professional committees both inside and outside the university.
In addition to his contribution as a member of editorial boards of various Arab and international journals, Dr Ibrahim is an external examiner at Georgetown University- Qatar, and participated in evaluating and refereeing external and internal grants.
Dr. Ibrahim’s research efforts are focused in the field of Narrative Studies and Cultural Criticism in Arabic Literature, in addition to his works on Teaching Arabic as a Second/Foreign Language. He has published 14 books, both individually and collectively, and has published many research papers in a number of scientific journals. He has also participated in many conferences, some of his papers won awards of appreciation (Best Research Paper Award at the Fifth International Conference for Arab Studies, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, 2018 AD), and won a number of external and internal grants. He has also published three creative works so far (collections of short stories for adults and children).
Dr. Alaa has long consulting and training experience in the fields of teaching Arabic communicatively, active learning, and comprehensive evaluation. He participated in designing the first Arabic Language course for Non-Native Speakers within Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) via the global EDX 2023 platform. The course achieved remarkable success and was chosen amongst the ten most popular courses in the world in 2023.
Dr Ibrahim won many international, regional and local awards for his research and creativity contributions in the field, including: the State Award in Literature (Egypt), the Sharjah Award for Arab Creativity (UAE), the International Phoenix Award (Netherlands), the Ihsan Abdel Quddus Award (Egypt), the Arab Moderation Award (Egypt), the Alukah Award (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) and Vodafone Qatar Creativity Award (Qatar).
