Professor, Department of Prevention and Community Health at George Washington University
Amita N. Vyas, PhD, MHS, is a Professor at the George Washington University (GW) School of Public Health. She directs the MPH Maternal and Child Health program and the GW Center of Excellence in Maternal and Child Health. Dr. Vyas is the Founder of the Global India Fund; Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council south Asia Center ; and served on the Board of Directors of Girl Rising from 2014-2020.
Dr. Vyas earned an MHS degree in Demography and a PhD in Population and Family Health Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health. Her research has primarily focused on the health and well-being of adolescent girls and women in the U.S. and globally. She has received The George Washington University Bender Teaching Award; the 2013 National Delta-Omega Honor Society Award for Innovative Curriculum; and the 2019 Student Supervisor of the Year Award for universities in the Northeast, among other honors.
