Dr. Alaa Ibrahim is an Associate Professor of Arabic at the Arabic for non-Native Speakers Center (ANNS) at Qatar University). He is also a visiting professor at Georgetown University in Qatar. Before joining Qatar University, Dr. Ibrahim worked as an assistant professor at Ain Shams University (Egypt).
Dr. Ibrahim has seventeen years of experience teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers. He formerly worked as a consultant for many higher education institutions that focused on active learning strategies and online learning applications. Dr. Ibrahim’s research interests focus on teaching Arabic for non-Arabic speakers, narrative studies, and cultural studies. To this day, he has authored and co-authored fourteen books, in addition to numerous articles that have appeared in prestigious, peer-reviewed regional and international journals. He is also an external reviewer for several scientific journals and an editorial board member of various Arabic periodicals. Dr. Ibrahim won several international, regional, and local awards for his critical research and creativity in story writing. Finally, Dr. Ibrahim partnered with Al Jazeera Network to author and create a series called Conversational Situations – a collection of interactive visual materials that help non-Arabic speakers learn how to use Arabic in simulated situations.
