Frequently asked questions

Moving to the U.S. can seem daunting for any international student, including students from India. Not only will you need to choose the right university and programme like every other college and university student, but you will also need to apply for an F-1 visa, get used to the local culture and climate, make new friends, explore career and future opportunities, and get practical training while in the U.S. We are here to help you face and handle all of these challenges, and more.

International students in bachelor’s degree programmes receive a full range of services, such as: support when choosing a degree programme; classes tailored for their academic level; and English-language support. Note that the number of services at your disposal may vary depending on the university and the programme you are applying to.

Most U.S. universities accept scores from Cambridge Assessment English (CAE), The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and/or the International English Language Testing System exam (IELTS). Some schools may also accept scores from the International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP), Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE Academic), and/or the Duolingo English Test. Check your university application requirements to see which tests your top-choice universities will accept.

Each English-language test will evaluate your proficiency in reading, writing, listening, and speaking in English. A strong understanding of the English language will aid you in your studies in the United States, and will help you get the most out of your study abroad experience when finding new friends, making professional connections, or travelling.

Depending on which test you take, you will most likely either have to sit for your exam at a certified testing center or will be able to take the test at home, online. The website for the test you will need to take will have all the details about when and how to take the test, as well as updated registration fees, how scores will be submitted to your university, health and safety protocols, and other important details.

To be eligible for a U.S. student visa (F-1 student visa for most international students), you need to be accepted to an accredited college or university in the United States. Once you are accepted, and to make sure you meet all U.S. student visa requirements, you will need:

  • Your passport

  • An I-20 form

  • A DS-160 non-immigrant visa application

  • Official school transcripts and the official test scores you used on your university application

  • Bank statements you used to fill out your college application

  • Any other U.S. student visa requirements
