Frequently asked questions

Maryville’s online EdD program equips you with the skills, connections, and experience to succeed in an educational leadership career. With an EdD, you may advance to administrative roles; oversee higher education institutions; assess, improve, and create new curricula and instructional methods; train other educators; or conduct research.

Maryville’s online EdD program is a 32-month, 48-credit program.

Here are some reasons an education professional might choose an EdD rather than a PhD:

  • Shorter program length: Maryville’s online EdD can be completed in 32 months, which may be one to three years shorter than a PhD in Higher Education.

  • Practice-based research: With an EdD, you can directly apply existing research to solve today’s critical issues. In a PhD program, your primary goal is to extend the body of knowledge on a subject.

  • Leadership focus: PhD programs are designed for specific academic disciplines, while Maryville’s EdD program equips you with the leadership skills to impact higher education on a sweeping scale.
